Duck Sauce = Summer

Posted in Duck Sauce on 17 april 2010 by surikaten

There’re few artist that’s as much summer as super funky super duo Duck Sauce. Last summer we went crazy to aNYway. One of the main tracks of this summer could very well by the extremely catchy song Barbara Streisand. Actually the original track hasn’t reached the blogs yet, instead it’s a remix by O-God that’s made it out first. Or is it a remix? A-trak writes on his Twitter: These dudes are ”remixing” our song before anyone even has our song.
Well check it out and tells us what you think. And while you listen, dance a bit.

Meet the new Duck Sauce toy

Posted in A-trak, Duck Sauce on 18 mars 2010 by surikaten

Duck Sauce
, in other words A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, took the world by storm last year when they released some tracks so funky you couldn’t possibly stand still. Yesterday A-Trak gave us some very good news on his blog. The first one is that they’ve made their own Duck Sauce toy. From the Duck Sauce logo by Dust La Rock the rubber duck company Celebriducks has created a unique Duck Sauce toy. It doesn’t squeak and there’s only 1000 of them.

The second news item is this statement from A-Trak ”yes we have new Duck Sauce songs, a bunch of them, and they are fonky.”. So all you Duck Sauce fans out there who’ve been listening to aNYway and Grandsteppin’ until your ears and feet bleed, your wait is soon over!

This one isn’t new but we just couldn’t leave this post without a song in it.

Duck Sauce – The Motion

IMPORTANT EDIT: Duck Sauce will do their first ever dj set at Grand Central in Miami on March 25th. If you’re anywhere near, don’t miss out! More on the show here…

HAJEN: Best of 2009

Posted in A-trak, Amanda Blank, Annie, Armand Van Helden, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Duck Sauce, Fred Falke, Jesper Dahlbäck, Kid Cudi, Kris Menace, Name The Pet, Rubix, Shazam, What we danced to 2009 on 31 december 2009 by hajen

So, it’s time for our very last post this year. We’re closing the loop with the fourth and last Best of 2009 list. This is my, Hajen’s, best tracks of 2009. Happy New Year dear readers!

10. Rubix – Baiser Sur La Disco (Rubix Refix)

Rubix – disco at its best! I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It’s a must dance track with a promise of a never ending night at the dance floor. But for God’s sake don’t leave this track for the club nights – use it whenever you need to cheer someone up – at the bus, in school, at work, in supermarket queues. Disco is for living.

9. Duck Sauce – aNYway

This Duck Sauce might not have many similarities with this sweet and sour thing you eat with china food. The mix of A-trak – Armand Van Helden and house/funky disco makes me fall head over heels. And as icing on the cake they have made a marvelous video for aNYway. I say no more.

8. Deadmau5 – Strobe

This track by always genius Deadmau5 doesn’t need an explanation. Listen – and marvel.

7. Amanda Blank – Make It Take It

Amanda Blanks I love you might be one of my most listened albums of 2009. The thousand layers of her deep and smooth voice on simple, but oh so brilliant, bass loop. A perfect clash between electro and hip hop.

6. Fred Falke – Back To Stay

You that read TAjT on a regular basis clearly now what position Fred Falke has got in our, and especially mine. electrified heart. Fred Falke is like the good parts of Midas. Golden like a car ride in winter scenarys, a sunny day by the sea or a smoky, sweaty, slow but energic dance floor at 5 am. Back to stay is the good parts of life.

5. Name The Pet – Get On The Bus

This is one of my favourite dansgolsvältare (translation: tune that overturnes the dancefloor) from this year. I can’t explain why –  my words seems unimportant in the company of Get on the bus. Turn up the volume – the intro says it all.

4. Shazam – Hello Cat

A smooth track that reminds me of Jamiroquai in its best days. Very nice tune!

3. Annie – Don’t Stop

After escaping her last record label and getting parts of her album leaked out, one of the most longed for albums finally came. Annie takes electro pop to a new level with Don’t stop. The title track is a catchy and karaoke friendly one – in a fresh way.

2. Jesper Dahlbäck – Super Connector

Last winter I moved to a collective in Solna, north of Stockholm. This track accompanied me on my way to work all spring.

1. Kris Menace feat. Fred Falke – Electricity

I agree with Surikaten on this. It’s indeed hard to choose one track from Kris Menace debut album Idiosyncrasies. But, Electricity it is. Mostly because it manages to remain easy even though it has a massive fateful image. It’s magic!

BONUS: David Guetta feat. KiD CuDi – Memories

A track that both I and Surikaten really like is this track. A genious collab between Guetta and Kid Cudi, between house and r n’ b. A totally genious floor filler that at least we are going to welcome the new year with tonight.

SURIKATEN: Best of 2009

Posted in Annie, Deadmau5, Duck Sauce, Ellen Allien, Fred Falke, Grum, Jesper Dahlbäck, Justin Faust, Kris Menace, Rory Phillips, Steve Angello, TAjT, What we danced to 2009 on 30 december 2009 by surikaten

The third day of TAjTs year best-lists and we’ve reached the best original mixes of 2009. It’s been a great year and here are my,
Surikatens, best tracks from it. Listen to them, dance to them and buy them. And of course, feature them in your playlist for the new year!

10. Annie – I Don’t Like Your Band

A dear friend tipped me of on Norweigan electro-pop artist Annie and her album Don’t Stop (released on 19 October in Europe). Since then the album has been played a lot of times. Especially this song, I Don’t Like Your Band, with its catchy melody and lyrics has stuck it self on my mind.

9. Justin Faust – Capri Spinoff

With his EP Revenge Justin Faust really kicked this year off. Faust has been recording music on a variety of labels since 1992 but it’s been with Revenge and a couple of great remixes (among them the remix on Heads We Dance which was featured on my Best Of Remixes-list) he has proven himself for real. Capri Spinoff has got all of Justin Fausts earmarks disco, synth and house blended nicely togheter.

8. Rory Phillips – Solar Breakfast

With this track British producer Rory Phillips showed that he’s more than a great remix artist (with remixes on Chromeo, The XX and Gossip) and brilliant party organizer. Solar Breakfast is a great nu disco track that builds up and won’t let go of you. The only thing you can do is dance. Keep an eye on this guy, that’s my advice.

7. Grum – Hearbeats

Scotlands finest, Grum has had a brilliant year. With releases of tracks Runaway and Hearbeats he’s gained a lot of well earned success. On music blogs all over the world bloggers have singed his prayer. Heartbeats really got my heart beating the first time I heard it and it won’t stop. This is an amazing track, no doubt about it.

6. Ellen Allien – Lover

The first techno track on this list and one might not be surprised that it’s a track from totally extraordinary German producer Ellen Allien. Released in the end of August on legendary Bpitch Control this track set a standard for the autumn. It’s beautiful and on the same time dark and scary.

5. Kris Menace (feat. Fred Falke) – Fairlight Pt. 1 and Pt. 2

To chose one track from Kris Menace 26 tracks on critic loved debut album Idiosyncrasies is extremely hard. Fairlight, featuring producer friend Fred Falke, was initially released in 2006. The follow-up Fairlight Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 is a true house killer. You have to love it, dance to it, ride a bike to it, have a drink in a park to it…

4. Jesper Dahlbäck – Super Connector

I almost forgot about this song when Hajen (my colleague at TAjT) reminded me. This track was easily one of the most important tracks of the late winter and early spring of 2009. It held me company on long train rides and made me happy every time I heard it. And who can blame me? From the first tune this track is sheer happiness. The intro tickles your good mood and then you’re stuck.

3. Steve Angello – Tivoli

Are we happy that Steve Angello made a promise on New Years Eve one year ago to stop partying and start producing? Yes we are! His album The Year Book is a fantastic house journey. Being one third of the Swedish House Mafia Steve Angello is one of the superstars on the club scene. Here he shows why. Tivoli is truly fantastic dance track that we for sure will hear on clubs all over the world for quite a while.

2. Duck Sauce – aNYway

How can a collab between Armand Van Helden and A-Trak possibly be anything else than magical? Well it can’t! This is magic, dancefloor magic. aNyway brings disco back to life, blends it with perfect house beats and all the talent of two briliant artists. If you don’t dance to this one, well then you can’t feel very good. My advice is to listen to it again, and again, and again. Eventually you will dance. I promise you.

1. Deadmau5 – Strobe

I don’t know how to describe this track. It’s just a perfect, magic, beautiful track. Deadmau5 has a unique ability to produce tracks that could be described with these words. Strobe is a track that you just don’t want end. The original mix is ten minutes long and has it all. If you’re a more restless soul you could go for the club edit but then you miss out on a four minute long intro-euphoria. If you need a soundtrack to your life for a while, this is it!

A-Trak

Posted in A-trak, Armand Van Helden, Boys Noize, Duck Sauce, Simian Mobile Disco, Yeah Yeah Yeahs with tags , , , , , , on 10 december 2009 by surikaten

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler (A-Trak Remix)

Boys Noize – Oh! (A-Trak Remix)

Och som en bonus…

Duck Sauce – aNYway (Black Noise Disco Remix)

Bring me that Duck Sauce!

”Duck sauce
is a translucent sweet and sour orange condiment used in some Chinese-American restaurants.” , says Wikipedia. TAjT says that it’s one of the most interesting and skilled duos that we’ve heard in a long time. And TAjT’s right of course. What could possibly go wrong when Armand Van Helden and A-Trak team up? Well nothing.
This is as funky as funky can be!
